UPSC ESE/IES 2024 Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for UPSC ESE/IES 2024, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria set by the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission):

UPSC ESE/IES Nationality

To be eligible for the exam, a candidate must meet the following criteria regarding nationality:

·       Citizen of India, or

·       Subject of Nepal, or

·       Subject of Bhutan, or

·       Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962, with the intention of settling permanently, or

·       Person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, or Vietnam with the intention of settling permanently in India.

·       Candidates falling under categories (b), (c), (d), and (e) must possess a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India. Candidates requiring a certificate of eligibility can still appear for the exam, but the offer of appointment will be given only after they receive the necessary eligibility certificate from the Government of India.

UPSC ESE/IES 2024 Educational Qualification

To meet the eligibility criteria for the UPSC IES (Indian Engineering Services) exam 2024, candidates must fulfill the basic educational qualification requirement. The minimum educational qualification required is a degree in an engineering discipline from a recognized university. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) provides a detailed list of educational criteria for appearing in the IES exam 2024.

·       A degree in Engineering from a university incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as universities under the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.

·       Passed Sections A and B of the Institution Examinations of the Institution of Engineers (India).

·       Obtained a degree/diploma in Engineering from a foreign university/college/institution recognized by the government.

·       Passed the Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India).

·       Passed the Associate Membership Examination Parts II and III/Sections A and B of the Aeronautical Society of India.\

·       Passed the Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Radio Engineers, London, held after November 1959.

Important Note:

Important Note that specific qualifications apply for certain posts, such as M.Sc. degree or its equivalent with specialized subjects for Indian Naval Armament Service (Electronics Engineering Posts) and Indian Radio Regulatory Service Group 'A'.

UPSC ESE/IES Medical Examinations

After successfully clearing all the rounds of the UPSC IES 2024 exam, candidates are required to undergo a medical examination, irrespective of whether they have previously undergone such an examination. The medical examination will be conducted at one of the railway hospitals under the Ministry of Railways. The Railway Medical Board will make the final decision regarding the candidate's fitness, and this decision will be considered final.

UPSC ESE/IES 2024 Selection Process

The UPSC ESE/IES 2024 Recruitment notification is scheduled to be released on September 6, 2023. Interested candidates should familiarize themselves with the following stages outlined in the official notification PDF. The UPSC IES Selection process consists of three phases:

Stage 1: Preliminary Exam

UPSC IES/ESE 2024 Exam Pattern

The ESE (Engineering Services Examination) is conducted in three stages.

·       The Stage-1 is the Preliminary examination with a duration of 2 hours.

·       The Preliminary exam consists of an objective-type paper with 2 sections.

·       The total marks for the Preliminary exam are 500, with 200 marks for Paper 1 and 300 marks for Paper-II.

·       The Stage-2 is the Mains Exam, which is a descriptive test with 2 question papers.

·       The total marks for the Mains exam are 600, with 300 marks for each question paper.

·       The final stage is the Personality Test, which carries 200 marks and is mandatory to qualify.

UPSC ESE/IES 2024 Document Verification / Final Selection

Candidates who successfully clear all three stages of the UPSC IES Exam 2024 will be required to undergo document verification. It is essential for candidates to be prepared with both soft and hard copies of the following documents for the UPSC ESE 2024 Document Verification: During the interview process for ESE (Engineering Services Examination) and PSU (Public Sector Undertaking) selections, the required documents are minimal as detailed document verification takes place once the selected candidates are called for final joining in the organization.

For ESE, the following documents are generally required:

·       Matriculation (10th class) pass certificate/marksheet (for Date of Birth verification).

·       Degree certificate and higher degree certificate, if applicable. If the degree is obtained from a foreign university, it should be recognized by the government.

·       Caste certificate for SC/ST/OBC candidates.

·       Physical Disability Certificate, if applicable, duly countersigned by the Chairman of the Medical Board and Chief Medical Officer (CMO).

·       Certificate supporting Age Relaxation, if availed.

·       The e-summon letter issued by the UPSC should be printed and presented on the day of the interview.

For PSUs, the required documents may vary from one PSU to another, but generally, the following documents are required:

·       Matriculation (10th class) pass certificate/marksheet (for Date of Birth verification).

·       Job experience certificate, if any.

UPSC ESE/IES 2024 Admit Card

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will issue the admit card for the UPSC ESE 2024 preliminary exam on its official website, upsc.gov.in.
